Findings published in the Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report reveal that only one in five children in the United States between the ages of 6 and 23 months received full influenza vaccinations during the 2006-2007 season. The Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices currently recommends that two doses of the flu vaccine should be given to children younger than 9 years of age. The 2007 National Immunization Survey indicates that only 21 percent of 6-23 month old children were fully vaccinated.
These statistics point out the need for increased awareness of, and access to, influenza vaccinations for children in the U.S.
