The Cause For Freshman Weight Gain

A nutrition expert at Duke University cites alcohol, poor eating habits, and laziness as contributors to weight gain in new college students. The nutrition director at the Duke Diet and Fitness Center says that gatherings in college often include alcohol, which is high in calories. Also, many new college students being away from home for the first time don’t know how to cook for themselves, and even if they do, they tend not to know how to cook healthy meals. Further, many students who were physically active in high school tend to become lazy, getting very little exercise.

Stress and other factors play roles in the noted weight gain in new college students, but eating healthy and maintaining a regular eating schedule can do much in keeping off the pounds.
