Good news for female coffee drinkers was published in the March 3 issue of Circulation. Data going back nearly a quarter century suggests that women who drink two or more cups of coffee a day are less likely to have a stroke. More specifically, the study found that healthy women who consumed two to three cups of coffee (caffeinated) a day averaged a 19% lower risk for any kind of stroke than women who drank less than one cup a month. Drinking four or more cups a day lowered risk by an incredible 20%. This benefit only seems to apply to non-smokers however, as smoking negates any protection provided by coffee.
Earlier studies have also suggested that coffee may protect against diabetes.
