Can You Take Cialis and Viagra Together?

Written by:  Daniel Williams, MD

In all the excitement of learning about how effective Cialis and Viagra are in treating erectile dysfunction, it’s no surprise that people want to combine them for even more benefit. The short answer to this question is no; combining them is all risk and very little benefit. Let me explain.

First of all, these are prescription medications and practically no physician would write a prescription for both of these medications to be taken at the same time. Second, Cialis, Viagra, and Levitra all inhibit the same enzyme in the penis – Phosphodiesterase 5 (PDE5). If you take Viagra for example, PDE5 is saturated with Viagra so adding Cialis into the blood stream doesn’t really help you. In fact, it will more likely bring the negative side effects instead.

Taking both medications at the same time would be similar to taking an overdose of only one of them. The chances that you would experience rare side effects would be theoretically increased. Prolonged erections lasting over four hours require emergency treatment. It’s possible that the rare reports of transient blindness and deafness would emerge and no one wants that!

Finally, it is best to follow the directions of your physicians. If one medication is not working as well as you think it should, try another one. You can try all three until you know for sure which one works for you, just do it with a prescription and follow the directions. If you would prefer to order Viagra, Cialis, or Levitra from the privacy of your own home, AccessRx.com has contracts with U.S. licensed physicians that will write a prescription for you. All you have to do is order the medication and fill out a medical questionnaire. Yes, it really is that easy!
