(The true story of an insomniac)
You learn some very interesting things when you lie awake all night. For instance, you learn you can compose a song to the rhythm of your husband’s snoring. You realize that your pets are not sleeping either and are up to no good. You count your blinks — 26 a minute. The dripping tap demonstrates the cruel effectiveness of Chinese water torture. There is no one awake in your whole neighborhood at three in the morning yet somehow there are always cars going by.
You may be wondering how I came to collect all these interesting facts. It’s simple. I have insomnia. Insomnia has become a regular part of my life. In my 20s I could sleep anytime, anywhere and I loved it. I miss quality sleep. I am not sure when it all changed.
Before I discovered Rozerem, I found out just how much insomnia can affect your life. I dreaded bedtime, wondering all day if I would be able to sleep. I was cranky and I forgot what it felt like to be normal. At work I had trouble focusing and was generally not fun to be around. I think my co-workers wanted me to solve my insomnia problem as much as I did.
I began to gain weight from munching on snacks at night. And my husband’s expectations of romance were met with irritability. I could barely function and I was not enjoying my life. I was too tired to exercise, even though I heard exercise was a great way to combat insomnia.
Before I found a treatment that worked, every evening was an unwanted visit to the unknown happenings of the night. I discovered that there is nothing on TV late at night except infomercials. I have to say, when you are that tired, some of those products sound really cool. As I would watch the latest cleaning product demonstrated, it only reminded me that I was too tired to keep up with my housework.
Desperately Seeking Sleep
I had heard of sleep aids. I knew there were herbal, over-the-counter and prescription sleep aids but I didn’t want the side effects and really didn’t want to get addicted. I tried an over-the-counter product but it left me feeling zoned out the next day. What good is a great night’s sleep if you have brain fog when you wake up and go to work?
I paid a visit to my local health food store to try one of their herbal products. I noticed no effect after three nights of taking them. I take that back, they did make me feel a bit nauseous. That was not really the effect I was looking for.
It was actually my husband who made me try Rozerem. I had just finished singing him the latest song I wrote to his snoring rhythms and describing how he looks like while he sleeps (not good). He said enough was enough. I had to try something. A co-worker of his had tried several prescription sleep aids and said that Rozerem was the best, bar none.
The way she described it, Rozerem seemed like the right fit for me. I found an online pharmacy called eDrugstore.md, consulted with their physician, and placed my order. I prayed that Rozerem would work. I was so tired of writing all these "hit" songs (they made me want to hit something!) when I should be sleeping.
After I took my first Rozerem at 10 pm on a Wednesday, I laid in bed thinking that this was never going to work. I looked at the alarm clock – 10:15 pm. Finally I jumped up angry and glanced at the clock. It read 7:15.
Wait a minute. Is it morning? I hadn’t even noticed getting drowsy and falling asleep. I slept for nine hours solid… for the first time in years! I was actually alert and ready to go. I danced in the shower and whistled all the way to work.
I hoped that the first night wasn’t a fluke. So on the second night, after taking my Rozerem, I lay quietly, waiting to feel that moment of drowsiness. The moment never came. I just woke up in the morning, again unable to remember falling asleep.
I used to be deeply concerned about getting hooked on prescription sleep aids or any other strong medication. But the Sleep Aids Articles I found on eDrugstore.md reassured me that Rozerem is not a narcotic drug and has been studied extensively for dependency. The studies showed Rozerem doesn’t affect the portion of the brain that’s linked with dependence, so I can quit taking it at any time. What a relief!
Is Rozerem Right for Your Insomnia?
If you’re like me and you have concerns about taking prescription sleep aids, you may not know what to expect from Rozerem. But the beauty of Rozerem is that it works with minimal side effects for most people. Of course individuals must see for themselves how it works with their body.
I have got to the point now where I only need Rozerem two or three times a week. I think I have established a pattern that my body is familiar with. It’s nice to know that my Rozerem is only inches from me on my night stand if I get insomnia. It really takes the pressure off me and I feel more relaxed… which helps me sleep even better!
Sure, I could have been the next Britney Spears with my "Snoring Songs" but I’ll take solid sleep over fame and riches any day. I am doing well at work. I feel energetic for the first time in a long time — even energetic enough to stay awake a little later to spend "quality time" with my hubby.
Meanwhile, I sent my husband’s co-worker a bouquet of flowers and a thank you card for recommending Rozerem. I told her about eDrugstore.md and how much less Rozerem actually costs there. She sent me cookies for sharing the money-saving tip.
I think that whoever discovered Rozerem should win the Nobel Peace Prize for bringing peaceful sleep back into my life. And everyone who knows me agrees!
Signed,
Sleeping Beauty, a happy Rozerem user and ex-insomniac
