Use MetroGel exactly as directed by your doctor. Avoid using other topical gels or lotions during treatment, unless you first speak with your physician. Make your physician aware of any allergies you may have. Let your physician know if you are pregnant or nursing before using MetroGel. This medication should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy, and breast-feeding is not recommended while using this medication.
Be sure to tell your doctor about every medication, herbal product, topical gel, lotion, etc. that you currently use, especially of "blood thinners" (e.g., warfarin). This will help to prevent any interactions or allergic reactions.

MetroGel can help decrease redness, swelling and the number of pimples caused by rosacea. An antibiotic, MetroGel is believed to work by decreasing skin inflammation.
Many people are not even aware they suffer from rosacea. But if you have redness of the skin that has been diagnosed by your doctor as rosacea, MetroGel is an affordable, effective and non-intrusive topical therapy at your disposal. A simple application twice a day can greatly reduce the inflammation and symptoms of rosacea.
Use this medication on the skin only. Wash and dry your hands and the areas to be treated before applying MetroGel. Wait 15 minutes, then apply a thin layer of medication usually once or twice daily, or as directed by your doctor. Wait 5 minutes before applying cosmetics. Avoid using MetroGel around the eye area. Watery eyes may occur if this medication is applied too close to, or in, the eyes. If this occurs, rinse your eyes with large amounts of cool water. Wash and dry your hands after application of MetroGel. Use this medication regularly in order to get full benefit. It may take about three weeks before improvement is seen, and up to nine weeks for full benefit. If no improvement is seen after three weeks, consult your doctor.
Stinging, burning, skin irritation, dryness, redness, metallic taste, nausea or headache may occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, notify your doctor or pharmacist promptly. Remember that your doctor has prescribed this medication because the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects. Many people using this medication do not have serious side effects. Tell your doctor immediately if you have this unlikely but serious side effect: tingling or numbness of the hands and feet.
